Opendistro vs OpenSearch, deployment on Kubernetes

So it seems opendistro is rebranded / rebooted under the OpenSearch name.
Does that mean one cannot migrate from an opendistro install to an opensearch one?
We are about to step up a searchcluster in Kubernetes, and don’t want to start on something that will terminate. I don’t see any guide/helmchart/manifests for deploying OpenSearch onto k8s? Do you have an operator? What does the timeframe look like here?
