Steps to install and get alerting functionality

Is it possible to get kibana alerting feature by simply installing the plugin?

This page: Standalone Elasticsearch Plugin Install - Open Distro Documentation

seem to suggest i can run vanilla (non opendistro) 7.1.1 ES and kibana and just install the plugin of interest (in my case its alerting). I did this step: Standalone Elasticsearch Plugin Install - Open Distro Documentation

to install the plugin and I see the plugin:

/usr/share/elasticsearch/bin/elasticsearch-plugin list

opendistro_alerting

But going into kibana I don’t see an “A” on the left hand side column. I’ve stop/started kibana a couple of times. I’m likely missing something very obvious-- any pointers appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @bf31415,

Alerting has two plugins, an Elasticsearch plugin and a Kibana plugin. If you’d also like to use the Kibana Alerting UI you can follow similar steps to install the Kibana plugin here:

Thanks. I wonder if this page should be updated:

specifically, adding an install section which basically says “alerting via the kibana UI requires two plugins to be installed, the elastic alerting plugin (directions at url foo) and the kibana UI alerting plugin (directions at the link above)”. I’ll float a suggested page change.

thanks
Brian
