I will appreciate any tips on how to set this up. Most of the materials I have located are for the paid WATCHER plugin, not ‘opendistro-alerting’

The documentation has a section on how to install and configure using the various distribution types. These will contain all of the plugins. If you want a particular plugin, there is a section on that as well. You can refer to the plugin compatability section to get the plugin version you’re looking for.
